Neonatal Acne Care- How To Care For The Skin Of Your Infant

Neonatal acne may come across as a serious condition but actually it is not. In fact, it is very normal for your newly born child to have pimples. There are many children who are born with infantile acne so there is nothing really to worry about.

In most cases, neonatal acne or baby acne disappears on its own. Baby acne has its own course and disappears within few weeks of the birth of the child. So, you will not really need any specific treatment to cure baby acne.
However, if the acne of your newly born child refuses to go, you need to care for the skin of your infant. The first thing that you can do in this direction is use a gentle cleanser to clean baby acne. Since a baby's skin is extremely gentle and delicate, it is advised that you use the gentles of cleansers.

Go in for a mild cleanser that does not contain any harsh detergents or medical actives. Since your child is suffering from acne, you can even opt for one of the anti acne cleansers for infants that are available in the market.

Wash the skin of your infant's skin twice daily. While cleaning, make sure that you are not too rough on the skin. Clean the skin gently and avoid any kind of scrubbing. Pat the skin dry with a clean and disinfected cloth or towel.

Cleansing the skin twice daily serves as an effective solution to neonatal acne in most cases. But in some cases of moderate acne, the infant may require prescription acne. As the first line of treatment, doctors prescribe a gel with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. Though this is effective, it can lead to skin drying.

If the acne is more severe the use of anti acne gel may be accompanied with an oral antibiotic. The use of oral antibiotics does not last for more than 18 months in most infants. However, oral antibiotics are used for extremely severe cases of neonatal acne.
