Penge High Street is not the most glamorous of locations, but Ego is a bit of a South London best kept secret, giving you all the perks of a central London salon without the zone 1 prices. I visited creative director Andrew Loizou as something of a hairdresser's worst nightmare - my hair was a mess of dark roots, uneven layers and a grown-out fringe, but I didn't want to lose the length.
